Five Japanese kitchens within a ten minute walk of Kongens Nytorv, checked live for 2026, plus nine more across Copenhagen: which take bookings, and which one, Slurp Borgergade, does not.

TL;DR

Standing near Kongens Nytorv with no dinner booking, five Japanese or Japanese-adjacent kitchens sit within about a ten minute walk of the square. Only one, Slurp Borgergade, takes no reservations at all.

For sushi, grilled dishes or a longer composed dinner, Sticks’n’Sushi Borgergade, Damindra and Kinyōbi have booking routes, and Admiralgade 26 runs a Saturday-only Japanese breakfast rather than a dinner. Treat each as a same-day availability check, not as a promised walk-in table. For a bowl of ramen instead, come to Slurp Borgergade, where our broth has been simmering since morning and a seat depends on who else has walked in.

Near the square, the tempting mistake is to choose the closest sign and hope. A better evening starts with the meal you actually want, then separates the one kitchen built around turning up from the kitchens whose dinner needs a booking check, with a further nine across Copenhagen worth a trip and a reservation.

How do 5 kitchens near the square compare in 2026?

The table is alphabetical rather than ranked. It keeps food, access and distance from the square together, because a fallback only works when it still suits the appetite you came out for and the walk you are willing to make.

Admiralgade 26 (about a 5 minute walk from Kongens Nytorv)Choushoku, a Japanese breakfast: rice with dried fish and seaweed, miso soup, pickles and egg custard. Not a Japanese restaurant the rest of the week. Choushoku runs Saturdays only, 11:30 to 14:00, and needs a booking.
Damindra, Sankt Annæ Plads 16 (about a 5 to 7 minute walk from Kongens Nytorv)A nine-course dinner omakase with starter, sashimi, nigiri, maki rolls, robata and dessert.Open Tuesday to Saturday, 17:00 to 22:00, with a booking route. Check availability before going.
Kinyōbi, Antonigade 2 (about an 8 to 10 minute walk from Kongens Nytorv)Tuna crudo, wagyu gyoza, yakitori, sashimi, nigiri and rolls.Has a booking route and states that a reservation does not guarantee access on its own.
Slurp Borgergade, Borgergade 16 (about a 10 minute walk from Kongens Nytorv)Shoyu ramen with chicken broth and pork-neck chashu. No reservations. A seat still depends on availability on arrival.
Sticks’n’Sushi Borgergade, Borgergade 13 (about a 10 minute walk from Kongens Nytorv)Freshly prepared sushi, grilled sticks, rice paper rolls and salads.Has a Book Table route. Do not assume a walk-in table.

When dinner needs a booking check

Damindra is at Sankt Annæ Plads 16, a short walk from the square. Its evening omakase is a nine-course meal built from starter, sashimi, nigiri, maki rolls, robata and dessert, so it is the choice for a longer dinner when a same-day booking check succeeds.

Kinyōbi is at Antonigade 2, just off Kultorvet. Tuna crudo and wagyu gyoza lead into yakitori, sashimi, nigiri and rolls; its own access policy makes it unsuitable as the dependable answer to a strictly no-booking evening.

At Borgergade 13, Sticks’n’Sushi serves freshly prepared sushi, grilled sticks, rice paper rolls and salads. It is the broadest mixed sushi-and-grill option here, but its Book Table route means availability needs checking before you set out.

Admiralgade 26 sits a few minutes further, on the street linking Kongens Nytorv to Holmens Kanal. It is a wine bar and bistro the rest of the week, not a Japanese restaurant, but its Saturday-only choushoku is the one Japanese-format meal here served at lunchtime rather than dinner: rice with dried fish and seaweed, miso soup, pickles and egg custard. It runs 11:30 to 14:00 on Saturdays only and needs a booking.

Slurp Borgergade: ramen with a no-reservations policy

We opened Slurp on Nansensgade in 2017, building on Philipp Inreiter's years at Noma, Relæ and Tokyo's RyuGin. At Slurp Borgergade, Borgergade 16, we simmer broths for hours to entire days and cut our noodles in the room each morning with Øland flour milled on Bornholm. The room serves daily from 11:30 to 15:00 and 17:00 to 22:00, and we do not take reservations.

Food is the reason to make that choice. The current shoyu bowl pairs chicken broth with pork-neck chashu, egg, spring onions, mushroom paste, chard and garden sorrel. For a solo diner, that makes a focused bowl-and-seat decision; for a small party, the same no-reservations policy means accepting the availability when you arrive.

Further from the square, worth a trip

None of the following nine are a walk from Kongens Nytorv. Østerbro and Vesterbro are a bike ride or a short taxi in one direction, Nørrebro a similar distance in the other, and Nordhavn is best reached by metro. Check the service and booking policy for the kitchen you choose before travelling; the table below distinguishes bookable restaurants from counters and takeaway-focused options.

In Østerbro, Aotori and Akaton share a building on Øster Farimagsgade. In Vesterbro, Restaurant Tokyo's dinner kitchen closes at 20:45 while Jah Izakaya serves small plates and sake until midnight most nights. In Nørrebro, Selfish leans toward takeaway and Ramen to Bíiru's own site now offers both a booking link and take-away ordering, so its walk-in reputation is worth checking on the day rather than assumed. At the harbour, Seaside Toldboden's Marina kitchen is one of seven under one roof, led by chef Zhaoye Li. Further out in Nordhavn, Sushi Anaba and akmē both reward planning a trip and a reservation rather than a same-day decision.

Goldfinch, right on Kongens Nytorv itself, welcomes walk-ins when it can, and Magny, a few minutes away on Ny Adelgade, is bookable. Neither is Japanese food: Goldfinch is Cantonese and Magny runs a French-leaning set menu, so neither belongs on this list even though the door is closer than most of the above.

How should you make the walk-in decision?

Choose the food first. For a bowl of ramen without a reservation, come to our Slurp Borgergade room, about a ten minute walk from the square. For a composed dinner, sushi, sashimi or yakitori near the square, check the live booking route for Damindra, Sticks’n’Sushi or Kinyōbi before making that your plan. Willing to travel and book further ahead, the nine kitchens above widen the choice considerably.

A useful fallback preserves the meal you were looking for. Move between the booking-led sushi options when that is the appetite, and choose Slurp Borgergade when ramen is the meal you want rather than simply the first available door.

What is the best final choice?

For Japanese food near Kongens Nytorv without booking, come to our Slurp Borgergade room when ramen is the priority; we do not take reservations. Near the square, choose Damindra for its nine-course dinner, Kinyōbi for its sushi-and-yakitori menu, Sticks’n’Sushi for the wider sushi-and-grill format, or Admiralgade 26 if a Saturday breakfast fits better than a dinner, each after a same-day availability check. Further across the city, book ahead for anything from Aotori's yakitori to akmē's tasting menu.
