TL;DR

Lamfuz serves Nepali dumplings from 16:00 Monday to Saturday. Slurp Nansensgade starts ramen at 16:00 daily. Bæst's wood-fired pizza and Bistro Lupa's plant-based evening menu start at 17:00. For an early dinner, choose the kitchen time first, then the food you want to spend the evening with.

Updated 23 October 2026

Back at the hotel, the wet scarf goes over a chair and the pastry bag on the desk is empty. You're ready for a hot dinner, even if the afternoon still has some life in it.

Early dinner in Copenhagen is possible from 16:00, with a much wider choice from 17:00 and 17:30. Start with the kitchen's dinner service, then choose the food you want. An open café door or a glass of wine on the table doesn't always mean the evening menu is ready.

Which 15 Copenhagen restaurants serve dinner before 18:00 in 2026?

These fifteen addresses serve dinner before 18:00 on the days shown, from a single bowl to a full tasting menu. The table groups the stated evening starts, then lists addresses alphabetically within each group. Earlier all-day service and day exceptions appear in their own rows. The two Slurp rooms count separately because they start an hour apart. Times and menus were checked on 23 October 2026.

Starting early doesn't oblige you to eat quickly. A tasting menu can begin at 17:00 and occupy the evening; a bowl can be the whole meal. If you're travelling on your own, the Copenhagen solo-dining guide gives more ways to choose the kind of table you want.

What can you eat at 16:00?

At 16:00, Nepali cooking and ramen give you two substantial central choices before most of the field begins dinner. Both make sense when appetite has arrived before the usual evening rhythm: hot food, enough for a meal, with no need to stretch coffee into another course.

Lamfuz, on Turesensgade 6, cooks Nepali food from family recipes. Its momo come steamed with sesame-tomato chutney, while jhol momo arrive in hot, spicy soup. For a plate with several things to work through, daal bhat brings basmati rice, tempered lentils, greens, chutney and papad. The published service starts at 16:00 Monday to Saturday. Dumplings suit the first sharp hunger; the rice-and-lentil platter makes a fuller, more varied dinner.

Nearby, Slurp Nansensgade is the original ramen room, opened in 2017. At Slurp, we cut noodles every morning and build the bowls around slow-simmered broth. Dinner starts at 16:00 daily at Nansensgade 90, with last orders at 20:45 and closing at 21:00. Choose it for a solo bowl or dinner for two; an early start does not guarantee a seat.

Friday adds a third early start. At Hanzō Vesterbro, the evening kitchen begins at 16:30; on the other days it starts at 17:00. This is a Pan-Asian meal of bao buns, tempura prawns and dumplings, served for sharing on Værnedamsvej 14. Its Friday lunch ends at 16:00, leaving a half-hour changeover before dinner. A daytime opening time alone would miss that gap.

How much more choice is there at 17:00?

At 17:00, the decision opens out from finding a kitchen to choosing a dinner. Pizza, pasta, vegetables and seafood all become possible, and there is no reason to keep the search inside the old centre if you're already in another neighbourhood.

Pizza and pasta when you want a familiar, filling plate

On Guldbergsgade 29, Bæst serves dinner from 17:00 every day. Its food revolves around wood-fired pizza, hand-stretched cheeses and charcuterie. The cheese and cured pork give you something to begin with before the pizza arrives, making this a good choice when you want an early sit-down Italian meal rather than just a slice on the move.

In Kødbyen, Tavola Di Masseria opened under its new name and direction in May 2026. The kitchen starts at 17:00 Monday to Thursday and runs from earlier in the day Friday to Sunday. All pasta is made in-house, and the 135 DKK pasta dishes include carbonara with pecorino, pancetta, egg and pepper, and pumpkin pasta with mascarpone and sage. Choose the carbonara for a rich, savoury plate; choose the pumpkin for a softer autumn meal.

Across in Christianshavn, Rufino starts at 17:00 daily on Strandgade 14. Fresh pasta is made each day, with ingredients from Italian artisan producers and small local farms. The tasting meal moves through four starters, two pasta courses and dessert, while à la carte offers another way to eat. It suits an early start that turns into a whole evening of Italian food, rather than a fixed finishing time.

Vegetables that carry the meal

For a plant-based dinner on Østerbro, Bistro Lupa serves its evening menu from 17:00 on Marstalsgade 8. The Lupa Fried Mushroom uses blue oyster mushroom with chipotle and barbecue flavours; beetroot tartare comes with plum, rose and hazelnut. Those give you a choice between crunch and smoke or a fruitier vegetable plate. The five-course tasting experience costs 549 DKK. À la carte is available for parties of up to four Sunday to Thursday; Friday and Saturday evenings are tasting-menu only. Early can still mean a substantial multi-course dinner.

Madenitaly, inside H15 at Slagtehusegade 1, gives the same plant-based choice an Italian shape from 17:00 Wednesday to Saturday. Roman-style pizza is baked in trays and served by the slice; fresh pasta includes filled ravioli and lasagna al forno. The restaurant moved into H15 in March 2025 after its earlier chapter near Nyhavn. Come here when the craving is pasta or pizza, with vegetables at the centre of it, rather than a tasting sequence.

Danish plates, seafood courses or a view over Ørestad

On the first floor at Østerbrogade 79, Madklubben Østerbro starts its kitchen at 17:00 Monday to Saturday and closes on Sunday. The evening menu includes Hopballemølle chicken with corn, chanterelles and king oyster mushrooms, or baked cod with potato, parsnip, trout roe and mussel sauce. These are full main courses for someone who wants a recognisable plate of dinner, with vegetables and sauce alongside the meat or fish.

The Pescatarian begins evening service at 17:00 daily on Amaliegade 49. Fish and vegetables run through the menu: mackerel with buttermilk and dill, hake with artichokes and beurre blanc, and red fish with grilled carrot and mustard. The four-course menu costs 525 DKK; on Friday and Saturday evenings the six-course Chef's Choice is the minimum, at 725 DKK. This is the choice for making dinner itself the evening's event, with an early beginning and several courses to follow.

Further south, Sukaiba starts dinner at 17:00 daily on the 23rd floor of AC Hotel Bella Sky in Ørestad. Its Asian-inspired menu has grilled miso salmon with mild wasabi and lemon sauce, ribeye gyoza with ponzu and crispy garlic, and smoked tofu with Szechuan glaze and lotus root. The menu can be à la carte or several courses. Choose it for those flavours and the high-up setting when you're already staying or spending the afternoon in Ørestad.

A one-bowl dinner back in the centre

Back in the centre, Slurp Borgergade joins the evening at 17:00 daily. We opened this Slurp room in January 2025, serving the same house-cut noodles in Shoyu and Nduja Miso. Last orders are at 21:45, ahead of the 22:00 closing time.

Which dinners are worth waiting until 17:30 for?

Another half-hour brings three different meals into reach. The useful question is whether you want what they cook enough to wait, rather than whether 17:30 sounds early on a restaurant listing.

Sanchez on Istedgade 60 starts at 17:30 Sunday to Thursday and at 17:00 on Friday and Saturday. Its five-course meal connects Mexican cooking with Danish produce, with masa made in-house from indigenous heirloom corn. That corn is a reason to choose Sanchez in its own right: the meal begins with an ingredient and technique central to the kitchen, rather than a list of generic Mexican favourites. Leave the rest of the evening open for the tasting menu.

Levi, on Ny Østergade 24, serves dinner from 17:30 Monday to Saturday and closes on Sunday. Its Italian-Japanese cooking brings together gnocchetti with salsiccia and sansho pepper, or risotto with clams and kombu. The name honours grappa maker Romano Levi, and the food follows the same interest in Italian craft with another set of ingredients folded in. This suits the diner who wants pasta but would welcome a different flavour from the usual osteria plate.

For modern Danish cooking, Madklubben København begins its kitchen at 17:30 Monday to Saturday, also closing on Sunday. The basement on Store Kongensgade 66 was the group's first restaurant. Its current evening dishes include mushroom tart with Vesterhavs cheese and mushroom sauce, and confit pork belly with apple purée, kale and vadouvan sauce. It is a different kind of comfort from noodles or pizza: a composed plate, a sauce and time to stay at the table.

Why isn't an afternoon opening time enough?

A restaurant can be open before 18:00 and still start dinner at 18:00. Aamanns 1921, for example, serves its smørrebrød lunch until 17:00, with last lunch orders at 16:00, but dinner begins at 18:00. It doesn't belong in a before-18:00 dinner shortlist. A late open sandwich may be exactly what you want; it is a different meal from the evening service.

Start times can also change by day. Friday's earlier Hanzō kitchen and the Friday-and-Saturday start at Sanchez are useful only on those days. Holiday notices can replace the normal week, so use the linked restaurant page again before setting out. For meals chosen more by atmosphere than by the clock, the relaxed Copenhagen restaurant guide offers a broader starting point.

Can you eat dinner at Slurp before 6pm?

Yes. Slurp Nansensgade serves dinner from 16:00 and Slurp Borgergade from 17:00, every day. At Slurp, we make Nduja Miso with noodles rolled and cut that morning. Borgergade also serves its pork gyoza at dinner, so 17:00 opens up a bowl and a side made for the evening.

The Borgergade gyoza cost 95 DKK for four, filled with pork, cabbage, ginger and spring onion, with soy dressing alongside. We serve these Slurp dumplings at dinner only. They give two people something to share before the bowls, or a solo diner a side when a bowl alone is not quite enough.

Nduja Miso, at 195 DKK, is the richer bowl: creamy chicken broth with spicy nduja butter, minced pork, tamago and burnt onion oil. Choose it for a fuller broth and chilli warmth. We make it with locally milled Bornholm flour in the noodles and serve it at both Slurp restaurants. For a solo early supper, one bowl gives the meal a simple shape without turning it into a snack.

Choose the dinner, then let the evening follow

For the earliest hot meal, choose Lamfuz's momo or the slow broth at Slurp Nansensgade. From 17:00, wood-fired pizza, a plate of carbonara, vegetables with smoke and spice, or a seafood menu all become possible. Slurp Borgergade serves Shoyu and Nduja Miso an hour after Nansensgade starts dinner.

The advantage of an early start is having the evening ahead of you. You can linger over the tasting menu or finish a bowl and go back out. If you're choosing for children as well, the family restaurant guide covers that separate decision. The right dinner is the one you want to eat at the time you're hungry.
