TL;DR

For Japanese dinner after 21:00, Jah Izakaya takes food orders until 22:00. Sticks'n'Sushi Tivoli Hotel and Levi keep kitchens open until 23:00 on Friday and Saturday, earlier on other days. Slurp Borgergade takes its last order at 21:45. Choose plates, sushi or a bowl, then check today's kitchen hours before leaving.

Updated 23 October 2026

The concert is over, your coat is back on, and dinner still hasn't happened. You want something warm, perhaps a few Japanese plates to share, but the restaurant windows don't tell you whether anyone is still cooking. Jah Izakaya serves food until 22:00; on Friday and Saturday, sushi and Japanese-Italian kitchens give you longer.

The useful choice is between the meal you fancy and the time left to order it. An izakaya lets you build dinner from several small dishes. Sushi and grilled skewers offer another combination; a bowl makes a more contained meal. A late drink can follow any of them, but a bar's closing time won't get you fed.

Which kitchens serve Japanese food after 9pm in Copenhagen in 2026?

The later Friday and Saturday kitchens are at Sticks'n'Sushi Tivoli Hotel and Levi. Jah's small plates are an everyday choice before 22:00; the bowl window in the table is shorter. These are kitchen or last-order times, so leave time to arrive, find out whether you can eat and place the order before the cutoff.

Japanese dinner after 21:00, checked 23 October 2026. Alphabetical order.
KitchenDinner to chooseFood-service cutoff
Jah Izakaya, Gasværksvej 21Karaage, pork gyoza, sashimi and agedashi tofuLast food order 22:00 daily
Levi, Ny Østergade 24Japanese-Italian plates, including king-crab wonton with dashiKitchen closes 22:00 Monday to Thursday; 23:00 Friday and Saturday; closed Sunday
Slurp Borgergade, Borgergade 16Nduja Miso ramen with an extra-chashu optionLast order 21:45 daily; restaurant closes 22:00
Sticks'n'Sushi Tivoli Hotel, Arni Magnussons Gade 2Sushi, grilled skewers and tempura shrimpKitchen closes 22:00 Sunday to Thursday; 23:00 Friday and Saturday

Think about the order before the journey. At 21:15, a kitchen with a 22:00 cutoff leaves 45 minutes before it stops taking food orders or closes, depending on the restaurant. That is time to reach it and order, not a promise that a table will be free. If your arrival would be close to the cutoff, call first.

Where can you build dinner from Japanese small plates before 10pm?

Jah Izakaya on Gasværksvej is the choice for several plates to share rather than a single main. Its story grows out of Omonim, whose owners retired in 2016; their daughter Ulla Inoue, her husband Satoru and two friends took the restaurant on, bringing an Osaka family connection into Copenhagen's izakaya scene.

The classics and 22:00 last food order make the meal easy to picture: tori no karaage is deep-fried chicken from Hopballe Mølle, while agedashi tofu comes fried in dashi. Pork gyoza and a changing sashimi selection give you a choice between dumplings and raw fish. Order across those textures, rather than treating every plate as another course in a fixed sequence.

There is room for a different appetite here: gyukatsu is panko-fried beef, and steamed Koshi Hikari rice makes a useful companion to the smaller plates. Food orders end at 22:00 every day, even though the room stays open until midnight Sunday to Thursday and 01:00 Friday and Saturday. Put dinner in before settling into the drinks.

What works for a bowl before 9:45pm?

Our Nduja Miso at Slurp Borgergade is a bowl choice before the 21:45 last order. Our ramen changes with the day as well as the season: we adjust noodles, broth and tare to the humidity and the rhythm of the kitchen. We use locally milled Bornholm flour for the noodles. We cook the broths for hours to entire days, while our noodles are rolled and cut each morning. That work gives a bowl its own reason to be dinner, even when the evening started elsewhere.

What is in Slurp's Nduja Miso?

Nduja Miso brings creamy chicken broth together with spicy nduja butter and minced pork. At 195 DKK, the current bowl also has tamago, spring onions, pak choi, bean sprouts, anchovy lemon dressing and burnt onion oil. Choose it when you want heat and a substantial broth; the dressing and vegetables give you more than one flavour to return to between mouthfuls.

How can you make the bowl more substantial?

Extra chashu is a separate 35 DKK pork-neck add-on at Slurp. It is a way to add meat to the meal you have chosen, without ordering another main: Nduja Miso plus extra chashu comes to 230 DKK before a drink. You can keep the broth you want and add more pork to it.

After 21:00, the relevant room is Slurp Borgergade at number 16. We take the last dinner order there at 21:45 and close at 22:00. Slurp Nansensgade takes its last order at 20:45 and closes at 21:00, so it cannot be your after-nine fallback. Arriving before last orders still leaves seating dependent on the room that evening.

Where can sushi and grilled skewers keep dinner open later?

Sticks'n'Sushi at Tivoli Hotel gives Friday and Saturday diners a later kitchen and a broad choice between fish, grilled meat and vegetables. The restaurant is on the 12th floor of Harbour Tower at Arni Magnussons Gade 2. Its kitchen closes at 23:00 on Friday and Saturday, and 22:00 Sunday to Thursday.

The appeal is in putting different kinds of food on the same table. Crispy Ebi combines tempura shrimp, avocado, spicy sauce, sesame and tsume; Tsukune brings chicken meatballs with teriyaki. Ebi Bites add shrimp, miso aïoli, chilli, lime and coriander. The wider sushi and skewer selection lets one diner choose fish while another stays with chicken.

Choose the skewers if warm grilled food sounds better than a whole meal of raw fish, or mix a roll with a few smaller dishes. This is a different dinner from a single bowl, particularly when two people want different things. The longer weekend kitchen window is useful, but the restaurant staying open until 01:00 does not extend food service past 23:00.

What if you want Japanese flavours in a different kind of dinner?

Levi suits the later meal when you are happy for Japanese flavours to meet Italian cooking. On Ny Østergade, founders Jesper Boelskifte and Peter Trauboth built the restaurant around that meeting and their interest in wine. Its kitchen runs until 22:00 Monday to Thursday and 23:00 Friday and Saturday; Sunday is closed.

The dinner dishes explain the crossover better than a label can. Gyoza pairs salsiccia with prawn, while the Japanese wonton comes with king crab and dashi. Spaghetti combines caviar with miso butter. A diner wanting sashimi can choose the daily catch, but someone expecting an exclusively Japanese menu should choose with that Italian influence in mind.

The room has green banquettes, larch panelling and terrazzo underfoot, a different setting from the barstool bowl. There is a useful change of scale, too: a small gyoza plate is 95 DKK and the larger king-crab wonton dish is 325 DKK when checked on 23 October. They answer different appetites. Decide whether you want a few small plates or a fuller dinner before ordering, especially near the end of service; a late arrival should not depend on fitting in a long tasting menu.

Which late closing times won't get you dinner?

Restaurant Tokyo on Vesterbrogade 77 is an easy example of why the kitchen matters. Its Japanese cooking includes sukiyaki, tempura and tonkatsu, but the kitchen closes at 20:45 Tuesday to Saturday. The later restaurant closing time therefore gives no basis for arriving after 21:00 for food.

The same distinction applies within the shortlist. Jah's final hours are for drinks after the 22:00 food cutoff. Levi's 01:00 closing does not mean king-crab wonton at half past midnight. At Tivoli Hotel, the Friday and Saturday kitchen ends two hours before the room closes. Check the branch as well as the brand, and use the food time when planning your journey.

How late can you order dinner at Slurp Borgergade?

Slurp Borgergade takes dinner orders until 21:45 daily and closes at 22:00. We do not serve after 21:45. Slurp Nansensgade stops orders at 20:45 and closes at 21:00, so it does not serve after 21:00. For a late bowl, check the Slurp Borgergade menu and room before you set off.

The concert is over; dinner still has a window

For several Japanese plates, choose Jah before its 22:00 last order. For sushi and grilled skewers later on Friday or Saturday, Tivoli Hotel's kitchen gives you until 23:00; Levi offers the same weekend cutoff with Japanese-Italian food. Slurp Borgergade fits a bowl before 21:45. Keep the food you want at the centre of the choice, then leave enough time to order it.

If the craving changes, there are more cuisines in the Copenhagen dinner-after-nine guide. For another evening centred on one area, use Japanese food near Kongens Nytorv, or explore the wider Copenhagen Japanese restaurant guide when the clock gives you more freedom.
